Chokoloskee sits at the end of the road, a small island community past Everglades City where Southwest Florida runs out of mainland. For the Chokoloskee Church of God, Fort delivered the new construction and site development of a 3,200 square foot church on a 0.89-acre site, a building the community will gather in for generations.
The challenge
Building at the end of the road
There are few more demanding places to build in Collier County than a small island at the edge of the Everglades. The site is remote, the coastal exposure is absolute, and a church is a building a whole community depends on, which means it has to be engineered for the storms this coastline knows too well. The project was the full package: developing the 0.89-acre site and raising the building on it.
Our approach
Site and structure as one scope
Fort carried the site development and the new construction as a single accountable scope, sequencing the work for a location where logistics alone reward careful planning. The congregation dealt with one team from raw land to finished sanctuary.
The outcome
A church for Chokoloskee
Completed in 2026, the church gives one of Florida’s most distinctive small communities a new home, joining Fort’s non-profit and community work from Caxambas Park on Marco Island to the church and camp buildings of its Pennsylvania roots.
