At the southern tip of Marco Island, Fort delivered a new community center for Collier County at Caxambas Park: 2,869 square feet of ground-up public building, along with the new sidewalks, parking areas, and landscaping that turn a building into a usable public place.
The challenge
A public building at the edge of the Gulf
Marco Island is about as exposed as Southwest Florida coastal construction gets, and a county-owned community building has to be built to the wind and storm standards that exposure demands. The project was also more than the building: the County needed the full site to work, with new sidewalks, parking, and landscaping delivered alongside the structure, on public land that residents and park visitors use year-round.
Our approach
Building and sitework as one job
Fort carried the vertical construction and the sitework as a single scope under one accountable contractor, sequencing the building, the flatwork, and the landscape so the County took delivery of a finished place rather than a punch list of separate contracts. It is the same one-team logic Fort brings to private work, applied to a public owner’s standards and oversight.
The outcome
A finished public place
The community center was completed in 2022 and serves Collier County residents at one of Marco Island’s best-known waterfront parks. It also stands as part of a broader public-sector track record: Fort has delivered projects for Collier County, the City of Naples, the Naples Airport Authority, and Lee County across Southwest Florida.
