Before Safelite could open in Collier County, an existing 2,618 square foot commercial space had to become one. Fort handled the conversion end to end: design, permitting, demolition, firewall installation, tenant separation walls, and the buildout of office space with a reception area, delivered on time and on budget for the national auto glass company.

The challenge

Making an existing building meet a national standard

Remodeling an occupied building’s shell for a new tenant is a different problem from building new. The space had to be demolished back to a workable state, then legally and physically separated from its neighbors with a code-compliant firewall and tenant separation walls, then rebuilt to the specifications a national brand applies to every location in the country. National tenants do not adjust their standards for local conditions; the local contractor adjusts to them.

Our approach

One team from drawings to delivery

Fort carried the design, the structural and fire wall engineering, and the permit plans in-house before demolition began, so the separation walls, the firewall, and the office and reception buildout were engineered as one coherent plan rather than improvised mid-remodel. The same accountability that governs Fort’s ground-up work governed this one: a single team, answerable for the schedule and the budget.

The outcome

On time and on budget, in 2018 and still proving it

The space was delivered on time and on budget in 2018, and Fort has repeated the formula for national tenants since, including the Cru Wine buildout in Bonita Springs two years later. When a national organization needs a Southwest Florida space to meet a nationwide standard, this is the track record they are hiring.
