Naples Airport needed more parking, and in Southwest Florida nothing gets paved without first answering for the water. Fort delivered a 40,000 square foot expansion of the airport’s parking for the City of Naples Airport Authority, with the stormwater infrastructure that makes new pavement permittable here and the landscaping that finishes it.

The challenge

More pavement means more water to manage

Forty thousand square feet of new impervious surface in coastal Florida is as much a drainage project as a paving project. Every square foot of pavement sheds rain that has to be captured, conveyed, and managed to the standards regulators hold public projects to. And the work sits at an operating airport, where construction shares the property with a facility that serves the public every day and an Authority accountable for both.

Our approach

Treat the sitework as the project

Fort built the expansion the way it builds everything: the unglamorous parts engineered first. The stormwater infrastructure was treated as the backbone of the job rather than an afterthought, the construction was sequenced to keep the airport’s operations clear of the work, and the Authority had one accountable contractor to call from start to finish.

The outcome

Delivered in 2024. Hired again in 2025.

The expanded parking opened in 2024 with its stormwater and landscaping complete. The clearest measure of how it went came the following year, when the Airport Authority brought Fort back to extend the airport’s interior roadway network. Public owners do not rehire contractors who made their lives difficult.
